On March 25, 2022, New Amsterdam Records releases Post-, the new album from pianist David Friend and composer Jerome Begin. Post-, a 50-minute set of solo piano pieces with live electronic processing, creates a world where pure and processed sounds twist together like twine, melding into one beautiful, nebulous tide—breaking the bounds of traditional solo piano music.
“So many tropes surrounding the piano are rooted in musical cultures that existed decades, centuries ago,” says Friend. “Post- takes a different approach—not by turning its back on the piano’s vital history, but by starting with pianism’s deep roots, then breeding a novel type of tree—one that unapologetically yokes music to technology.”
