Real Enemies, out this fall

Performing in NYC Jan. 29-30
as part of
The Jazz Gallery's 20th Anniversary Concert Series

Brooklyn-based composer-bandleader Darcy James Argue and his innovative 18-piece big-band Secret Society will head into the recording studio the first week of February to record their third album, Real Enemies, out this fall on New Amsterdam Records. The work follows their Grammy-nominated and widely praised albums Infernal Machines (2009) and Brooklyn Babylon (2013).

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society will preview selections from the album during four special performances on January 29th & 30th as part of The Jazz Gallery's 20th Anniversary Concert Series in New York City. The set will also feature other recent and unrecorded works.

The multimedia version of Real Enemies premiered to great acclaim during theBrooklyn Academy of Music's 2015 Next Wave FestivalReal Enemies investigates America’s fascination with conspiracy theories; narratives behind the Red Scare, the Illuminati, Edward Snowden, and alien sightings are meticulously examined and interrogated.

Nate Chinen of The New York Times praised it as “wildly discursive, twitchily allusive, but taut in its adherence to a larger theme, it’s a work of furious ambition that feels deeply in tune with our present moment" and named it "one of the top 10 live music events of 2015."

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society will issue a free preview track from the live recording of Real Enemies at BAM to all newsletter subscribers. Sign-up is available through the group's website here.

(Note, The Jazz Gallery performances will not feature any multimedia.)
