The Ecstatic Music Festival (EMF) returns for a fourth season of adventurous collaborative concerts bringing together performers and composers from across the sonic spectrum for 11 highly unique and utterly original collaborations. At a time when incorporating diverse musical influences is the norm rather than the exception, the EMF gives some of today's most compelling musicians the opportunity to work together in exciting new combinations, branching out in fresh, unexpected directions and exploring new territory.
The festival opens Jan. 31 and runs through March 29, with all but two of the performances will take place at Merkin Concert Hall, where the festival was established in 2011. The opening-night concert at the Greene Space features the Brooklyn trio Hospitality and Face the Music, a student new-music ensemble based at the Kaufman Music Center. At Carnegie Hall on Feb. 22., Missy Mazzoli's Victoire with share the bill with Glenn Kotche, the drummer from Wilco.
Additional collaborations of the 2014 festival include Dawn of Midi & Bright Wave; Lesley Flanigan & People Get Ready; Saul Williams & Mivos Quartet; Mirah & Susie Ibarra; the Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund Concert; Timo Andres, Gabriel Kahane, Ted Hearne, Becca Stevens, & Nathan Koci; Colin Stetson & Brooklyn Youth Chorus; So Percussion & Buke & Gase; and Man Forever & William Basinski.
